Various White Lake paleobasin fossils from the Eocene era . If you take a close look at the fossils in the picture, you might recognize some of the types of plants, or there relatives, that you see around today. Or maybe not. The Eocene era is the first major place in the fossil record where we begin to find plants and animals that are not around today- signifying the first major extinction event in the geological record.
